What is the discovery process?
Discovery is the pretrial process in civil cases during which one party reveals, at the opposing party's request, relevant facts and documents relating to the dispute at issue. Discovery takes three basic forms: document production, interrogatories (written questions), and depositions (asking oral questions of witnesses under oath). The purpose of discovery is for the parties to find evidence to support their position (claims and/or defenses) and to learn the evidence the opposing party has in support of its claims and/or defenses.
