What is the difference between Pennsylvania's medical marijuana and hemp programs?
The two programs are authorized by different legislation and overseen by different Departments. Hemp contains virtually no THC (less than 0.3%), and hemp growers and processors must have a permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. The Medical Marijuana Act is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The Act requires that all cannabis for medical use be grown at a permitted growing/processing facility and that the products be tested prior to sale. Both hemp and marijuana plants contain levels of other compounds of interest, such as cannabinoids like CBD.
